Apr 14, 2006, Denim Day in L.A. L.A. is preparing for the 8th annual Denim Day, and event created to protest the myth that rape and sexual assault can be excused by factors such as a woman's attire. The rally will take place on Wednesday, April 19 at the Staples Center parking lot 7. Denim Day began in 1999 as part of an international protest against an Italian Supreme Court's decision to overturn a rape conviction because the victim wore tight jeans! The judges accepted the argument that tight jeans could not possibly be forcibly removed without the cooperation of the person that is wearing them. I'd like to see them submit themselves to a test.... I'm sure we can find many ways to peal them off, or intimidate them into "cooperating". If their reasoning had any merit, tight jeans could then be promoted as a "rape deterrent", how absurd! To learn more about this protest, visit: www.denimdayinla.org or call (213) 955-9090.
