Dressing For Your Body Type
On this site we have gone into great depths on the subject of dressing for your body type as it relates to the search for the best fitting jeans. If you would like more information on dressing for your body type as it applies to your whole wardrobe, please read on.
Diana Pemberton-Sikes is a wardrobe and image consultant and author of "Business Wear Magic" and “Wardrobe Magic”. The first shows women how to increase their income by dressing appropriately for their line of work. The second is a must have guide that teaches you “how to transform unruly closets into workable, wearable wardrobes”.Diana’s approach is based on making “correct wardrobe” choices from an economic/practical point of view as well as regarding image issues. In her “Business Wear Magic” she asks :
“Are there items in your wardrobe that can convey authority, status, or position more readily than others? You bet! In fact, there are pieces you put on every day that say more about you than you know. If you want to engineer your wardrobe to speak volumes about your position in this world WITHOUT spending volumes to do so, there are some key power pieces you need to help you get where you want to go.” So…… “What is “appropriate” business attire? That's sort of like asking, “How long is a piece of string?” It's not a “one size fits all” proposition. For depending on your line of work, your corporate culture, and your audience, it can mean different things to different people—even within the same organization. Tricky? You bet. Figure it out and combine it with strong skills and the “sky's the limit” in your field. But fumble on the dress code—even if you're technically competent—and your climb will slow considerably, if not stall completely. How you look will open (or close) the door to opportunity; what you know will keep you in the room.” | |
In her other ebook, “Wardrobe Magic”, Diana goes way beyond the concept of dressing for your body type. She will show you how to make shopping fun and help you get the most out of your clothing budget. If you count yourself amongst the women who: - Don’t know what kinds of clothes look best on them.
- Don't follow fashion and don't want to look ridiculous or dated in their purchases.
- Are easily flustered when they can't find what they're looking for quickly.
- Feel uncomfortable trying on clothes in dressing rooms.
- May have put on a lot of weight and either can't find clothes that fit or don't want to face the fact that they need a larger size.
- Hate crowds.
Diana will lead you on a journey to improve your image, save money, and ultimately feel better about yourself. Her approach is clear and logical, and covers all bases (jeans were not left out of the “classic staples”).These are great books, written by somebody who really knows her specialty. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
Accessory Power
Diana has just released her third book: Accessory Magic , and it is a must! Many women think that the subject of dressing for your body type is not relevant to your choice of accessories. Nothing could be further from the truth! Accessories have the power to do all of the following and more:
- Draw attention to your assets
- Pull attention away from your trouble spots
- Give a variety of looks to a single outfit
- Make a garment look expensive
- Revive or update classic clothing styles
- Relate different items of your outfit to each other
- Define your personal style
This 200 page book packs more accessorizing information than any other resource that I have found. Diana claims that accessories are her single biggest secret to creating her "signature style". She says that, "accessories present world of opportunity when used correctly, from pulling unrelated pieces together to transforming an outfit on a moment’s notice. You can use them to look taller, thinner, richer, or whatever – and you don’t have to spend a fortune to do it."
Style coach Sheila E . Dicks has also written some excellent material on the subject. Her "Image Makeover: How to Dress to Suit Your Body Shape" ebook will show you the steps to attain the look you've always wanted.
You Will Learn How To: - Identify the fundamentals of dressing for your body type

Sheila uses classifications that are not exactly the same as those that we use on this site: triangle, inverted triangle, hourglass, oval and rectangular. The e-book is profusely illustrated, making the effects created by correct or incorrect choices very clear.
Remember, the art of dressing for your body type is all about creating illusions, and if you learn how to manipulate them to enhance your strong points and camouflage your not so great points, you are in the driver’s seat and well on your way to developing your personal fashion style.
