The Perfect Fashion Accessory
Turn your “jeans” into an “outfit”

Women's Accessories

Nothing can dress up your jeans like the right fashion accessory! I think we’re all suckers for their irresistible charms. They’re such a great way to spruce up your outdated wardrobe, or to keep your jeans looking chic from season to season. But some choices can hurt your image, and leave a dent in your, hopefully fashionable, purse.

Talking about the “right accessory” is sort of like talking about “the perfect fitting jeans”. There is no “right accessory”. Like any other fashion and style choice, it has to be made on the basis of your body, personality and occasion. This a principle of style that applies to anything that you wear, including your handbag! It is a common thread that you will see throughout this and other sites on fashion and style.

You don't wear just jeans, do you?

Nothing is as versatile as denim when it comes to complementing it with accessories, but beware, everything you put on can add or detract from the composition that you are creating. And since you are most likely going to accessorize your jeans, we would like to offer you some simple guidelines.

Your choice of eyewear will be as important in highlighting your facial features as the correct fitting jeans are in making your butt look great. Your hairstyle can be as influential in emphasizing a long lean look as the leg type of your jeans. So, let’s learn a little bit about how the right fashion accessory can enrich your appearance. With today’s prices for the higher end accessories, it would be a shame for such an investment to hurt, rather than enhance your look.

The same fundamentals apply as with our jeans guidelines. We will be offering tools, not rules for making better purchases. Nobody serves hard time for not following these suggestions. Still, there are some fundamentals that will help you avoid the “what’s wrong with this outfit” feeling.

In general, avoid these pitfalls:

  • Guard against the temptation to over accessorize. Give your choices some thought.
  • Be very wary of the latest trends, especially with higher end accessories,
  • Look for styles that you will feel comfortable with for more than just this season.
  • Consider renting higher end “trendy” items, when available
  • Some accessories are “just decorative”, some serve utilitarian purposes. Make sure that those fulfill both needs.
  • Wear accessories that are in proportion to your body. Scale is crucial! (A lot more on this later!)
  • Wear accessories that draw attention to your assets and away from your flaws.
  • Select accessories to match your outfit, not the other way around
  • Accessories should be in balance with the overall heavyness or lightness of your clothing
  • When wearing bold patterns, note that the color and design of these are in a way an accessory themselves. You may not need anything else, or just remember to keep it simple.
  • Your choice of accessories should be in tune with the season, the occasion, and the “mood” of your ensemble. Clothing, materials and degree of formality should not clash!
We’ve split our search for the best fashion accessory into the following sections. Hope you find them enjoyable and useful. (Coming soon)

“Accessory Magic” is Now Available

If you’ve been patiently reading the pages of this site, you already know that I am a big fan of fashion consultant Diana Pemberton-Sikes. You may have read our review of her Wardrobe Magic and Business Wear Magic e-books. Well, Diana has added a comprehensive new book to her offerings: Accessory Magic . I haven’t run into anything that remotely comes close to Diana’s coverage of the power of accessories. She has tips and tricks that will astound you.

Accessory Magic
This ebook comes with 3 special bonuses and is packed with easy to follow information, illustrations and pictures. Diana’s focus is along the lines of what we have covered on this site, but taken to the limit. She will show you how “all those shoes, handbags, scarves, and “stuff” that you have crammed in your closet and drawers can literally transform your wardrobe” and be used to create your signature style.

Obviously, Diana covers a much wider range of outfits than just denim, but the principles are particularly applicable to jeans. Nothing is as versatile as denim, and accessories are the secret weapon. They present a world of opportunities, if you know how to use them correctly. You’ll learn all of these tricks and more:

  • The real “rules” of accessorizing
  • How to find the best accessories for your body shape
  • Which three accessories instantly convey your income level incertain circles
  • The best investments for your accessory budget
  • How to use accessories to look older, younger, taller, shorter, richer, poorer – or whatever your image goals
  • Sleight-of-hand tricks that will create flattering illusions
  • Which pieces can instantly establish your authority
  • Why hair, makeup, and nails are among your most important (yet most overlooked) accessories
  • The one accessory you can use to set the mood of an ensemble or follow the latest trends – that you can’t get online or at the mall
  • A list of accessories that you should have so that you’re “ready for anything”
I hope you give yourself the opportunity to learn what so few women ever master. Accessory Magic has set the bar for resources on how to use accessories.
