Lucky Jeans
Lucky Jeans strive to recall a time in America when quality and pride were values of the highest order. This brand is an American original, and has remained a favorite of the independent minded since it’s founders, Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman made their first delivery in 1990. It’s roots are in Rock ‘n Roll mixed with a unique sense of humor.

The results: great fitting jeans with a vintage flavor. The owner’s involvement with blue jeans dates back to the 1970’s, when they partnered to open a jean’s store in Florida called “Four Way Street”. It was in those days that they pioneered the prewashing techniques that are now common. They did this with just some bleach and a lot of quarters (for the laundromat).
Gene moved to L.A. in 1978 and started Bongo Jeans with Michael Caruso. This brand became very successful, but in 1990 Gene decided to pursue his ideal and left Bongo. Lucky Brand Jeans was born as a new partnership with his old friend Barry, and their goal in common was to develop an uncompromising line of denim products.
They quickly developed a following because of their attention to detail, but Gene had one more trick to perform. He insisted on putting the slogan “Lucky You” on the fly, going against the conservative trends that reigned during the 1990’s. Well, this good humoured signature became a hit overnight, and set the pace for what was to become a company renowned for attitude, vision, humor and uncompromising quality. Lucky Jeans was on the map, and has since remained committed to the product.
In May 1999 Liz Claiborne, Inc. bought 85% of Lucky Brand Jeans, setting the stage for very ambitious plans for expansion especially in it’s retail operations.
