Seven Jeans
They “flatter your curves and hug your hips” became the widely held view of Seven Jeans, and the idea of denim “molding and slimming” your figure rocketed premium brands to levels never before thought possible.
7 for All Mankind is probably the best known designer jeans label, and this fame is well deserved. The company was founded in the fall of 2000, in Vernon, CA, and took it’s name from the amazing statistic that Americans on average own seven jeans at any one time. Their stated goal thus became for all of mankind to own seven pairs too!
In what proved to be a visionary move, the founders identified a void in the contemporary premium denim market. This market had been virtually dormant since the early 1980’s and was ripe for the picking. Seven Jeans enjoyed instant success and set the pace for the unprecedented proliferation of premium denim labels in the years to follow. The end of this denim frenzy is still a favorite topic of editorials, but I don’t see it on the horizon. What may happen, due to a saturation of the market, is a popping of the “price bubble”, but we’ll leave this issue for another time.
The label quickly established a reputation for fit and the ability to look good on almost any body type. Seven Jeans also set the standard for the creative use of new washes, finishes and fabrics, as well a meticulous attention to detail. Many women swear by these jeans. I’ve been witness to what could only be described as a “shopping frenzy” in LA when a local warehouser was selling Seven Jeans at a discount during a two day fashion “trunk” show. (They were originals!) It was amazing!
In October 2002 the men’s premium denim market was reborn as well, with the launching of men’s 7 For All Mankind. This line is “relaxed, cool, hip” and most of all extra comfortable. The company has further expanded its offerings by venturing in men’s and women’s shirts and outerwear lines, women’s skirts, and a childrens 7 collection. In 2005 they launched The Great China Wall Collection and, in collaboration with Ron Herman Design Studios, the “More 7” line.
Styles: - Bootcut: A comfortable, snug fit. The fit around the waist is tight and low, loosening just above the knees. Tight, but not uncomfortable through the but, thanks to a very soft finished stretch denim.
- Boycut: Sits a bit higher on the waist, fit through the thighs is a bit looser, boot cut leg and buttoned fly
- Crystal Pocket: Embellished back pockets.
- Flare: Low on the waist, tight fit, flared leg cut below the knee and zippered fly
- A-Pocket: Also a low rise waist in a tight fit and a contoured waist band, full cut rear. The fit is also looser through the thigh and has a bootcut leg opening and zippered fly. This is an ideal cut for girls with a larger rear or larger or athletic thighs, thanks to the stretch denim and the very well proportioned bootchut
- Dojo: Very Low on the waist with a higher cut in the back. The fit is tight, loosening towards the knee and an extra large flare.
- Mojo: Very low riser waist, the fit is tight and the waist band extra wide. These pants are looser at the knees and have an extra large flare. Darted back pockets.
- Rocker: Very low rise in front, tight, with a straight waist band. The leg cut features a slight bootcut opening and the fly is zippered.
- Flynt: Low waist, tight fit a contoured waist band and higher back. Made of a heavier stretch denim. Leg opening is bootcut, running very straight from the hips to the knee. and fly is zippered. Works well for curvy, hourglass figures.
- Mia: Low on the waist with a higher cut in the back. The fit is tight, leg opening slight bootcut and the fly is zippered.
